zine inspiration loop
Do you read
’s substack? Every Friday he sends out a list of things “worth sharing” and I always come away so inspired. This week, he shared a template for a Gratitude zine he made. I plan on setting the table with copies of it this Thanksgiving. After I printed one out and learned how to fold it right, I decided to make my own version, inspired by my friend Lisa Galloway-Sprietsma, who called me just as I’d finished folding my blank paper. She was on her way to an art class she teaches at the local college, where she spotlights a famous female artist each week. Why? Because many of these names are not as ubiquitous as they should be.
Here’s my zine:
Name the artists (by their works), in the comments for a prize! (The prize is a sense of superiority).
Double the prize for anyone who makes their own zine!
Cheers,
Lacy
P.S. I recently listened to Austin Kleon’s entire Steal Like An Artist trilogy and loved it.
P.P.S. For many years I shied away from zines because it seemed like something only “cool” artists made. But really, a zine is just a homemade magazine. This is my first.
